POS-X Printer – Troubleshooting Steps
Table of Contents
✅ 1. Basic Hardware Checks
Ensure the printer is powered on
Confirm the power LED is lit.
If not, check the power cable and plug it into a working outlet.
Check for paper jam or no paper
Open the top cover and inspect the paper roll.
Replace the roll if empty and ensure it's thermal paper (not plain paper).
Make sure the paper is correctly oriented (thermal side facing the print head).
Check status lights
A flashing or solid red light usually indicates an error (e.g., out of paper, cover open, overheating).
Refer to the manual for specific light codes.
🌐 2. Connection & Communication
USB or Ethernet connection
Ensure USB cable is properly connected to the POS system or PC.
For network (Ethernet) models:
Confirm the Ethernet cable is secure and the green/orange lights near the port are active.
Ping the printer IP address from the connected PC:
ping [Printer IP]
If it fails, the printer might have a network/IP issue.
Check Printer IP (for network models)
Print a self-test page to confirm the IP:
Turn off the printer.
Hold the Feed button.
Power on while holding Feed for a few seconds until printing begins.
Check the printed page for IP address and configuration.
🖥️ 3. Driver & Printer Settings
Verify printer is installed correctly
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Confirm the printer shows up and is set as Default (if applicable).
Reinstall or update driver
Download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website.
Uninstall the existing driver via Device Manager or Printers & Scanners, then reinstall.
Check print queue
Clear stuck print jobs:
Right-click the printer > "See what’s printing" > Cancel all jobs.
🧪 4. Test Print
Try printing a test page from Windows:
Right-click the printer > "Printer properties" > "Print Test Page".
If it doesn't print:
Retry with another USB port or network cable.
Test on another computer to isolate the issue.
🛠️ 5. Advanced Troubleshooting
Check printer configuration utility
Some printers have a config utility tool (like “POS Utility Tool”) where you can test prints, reset settings, or update firmware.
Reset the printer
Use the utility or a hardware method (refer to manual) to factory reset the device.
Firmware Update
If supported, update to the latest firmware via the manufacturer’s utility or web interface.
🧾 6. If Issue Persists
Try a different USB/network cable.
Test with a different PC or POS station.
Contact manufacturer support or escalate to your internal IT support.
